Looking for an Electrician in Sheffield?
A flickering light, a fuse board that keeps tripping or a socket that has gone dead is rarely convenient. It is even less convenient when you do not know who to call.
Sheffield is a big, spread-out city. A job in Hillsborough is not the same trip as a job in Totley or Stocksbridge. Homes also vary a lot. A tidy newer house on the edge of the city is a different job from a much older home where the wiring has been altered several times over the years. So the first question is not just "who is good?" It is "who covers my part of Sheffield and has done my kind of job before?"
To help you start, we have put together a list of 10 electricians in Sheffield worth comparing. This is not an official ranking. The word "best" in the title is a search term, not a verdict. We have not tested any of these businesses, and we have not seen their work.
For each one we looked at what the business says about itself, and at public records and profiles where we could find them. Some businesses have a lot of public information. Others have very little. Where we could not check something, we say so plainly.
Before you hire anyone, read recent reviews, confirm the business covers your postcode and ask for a clear written quote.

Now let's look at each one in a bit more detail. We have written down what each business says about itself and kept our own opinions out of it. We checked these pages in October 2026.
1. Smart Electricians Ltd
A company with a clear list of services and areas
Some electrical websites are vague about what they do. Smart Electricians Ltd is easier to read than most.
The business gives its address as 110 Prospect Road, Lowfield. Its website lists EICR testing, full and partial rewires, consumer unit upgrades, PAT testing, electric vehicle charger installation and air conditioning installation.
The site names plenty of places it works. They include Dore and Totley, Meersbrook, Mosborough, Crookes, Kiveton Park, Hillsborough, Stocksbridge, Walkley and Woodseats. It also mentions Rotherham and Chesterfield and says it serves "Sheffield and South Yorkshire". That is a wide spread, so still ask whether your postcode is on the regular route.
The website shows logos for Part P, NAPIT and a registered competent person scheme. It does not explain them in the text. If registration matters for your job, ask which scheme covers the work and look the business up on that scheme's own register.
At Companies House, Smart Electricians Ltd (company number 10187767) is shown as active. It was incorporated in May 2016 and its registered office is in Sheffield. Its listed business type is electrical installation. The Companies House record tells you the company exists. It does not tell you how good the work is.
The website says it has "over 120 genuine Google reviews with an average rating of 4.9/5". That is the business's own statement, and we did not check it against Google. The site makes no emergency call-out claim, so do not assume it offers one.
A good place to start if: You want a rewire, an EICR or a fuse box upgrade and like to see a service list and area list before you pick up the phone.
Website: smartelectricians.co.uk
2. YKB Electricals
A well-reviewed name, but a thin website
YKB Electricals is a Sheffield electrical contractor. It gives its address as 106 Sandford Grove Road, in the Nether Edge area.
We could not read much from its own website. The page we reached showed little more than the business name and the words "Electrician in Sheffield". So most of what we know comes from its Trustpilot page.
There, the business describes itself as a "local, qualified friendly electrical contractor" covering Sheffield and surrounding areas. It says it gives free quotes and that all work is insured and guaranteed. Its listed services are electrical installation, maintenance, testing and certification, EV charging points, burglar alarms, smoke alarms, CCTV, TV installation and Ring doorbells.
When we looked in October 2026, the Trustpilot page showed a score of 4.9 out of 5 from 360 reviews. Scores change, so check the current page and read the newer comments.
The profile does not name any trade body or scheme. We also did not find a Companies House record we could match to this name. That may simply mean it trades as an individual. Either way, ask exactly who you are contracting with, and ask which registration covers the work if you need a certificate.
A good place to start if: You want a smaller home job done, such as sockets, smoke alarms or a doorbell, and you are happy to check the details by phone first.
Reviews: YKB Electricals on Trustpilot
3. Arc Electrical
An electrician that says it only does domestic work
Many electricians take on anything. Arc Electrical says it works "exclusively to the domestic sector". If you are fixing up a house rather than a shop or office, that focus may suit you.
Its website lists EV charging points, house rewiring, fuse board upgrades, condition reports, sockets, lighting, bathrooms and kitchens. It says it is based in Greenhill and serves South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, naming places such as Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Dronfield and Rotherham.
A public directory lists the business at an address on Abbeydale Road South, in Beauchief. The website itself gives no street address, only Greenhill. Both are in the south of the city, but you should ask where the business actually works from.
The site says Arc Electrical is a member of NICEIC and describes this as a government-approved competent person scheme. It also describes a "NICEIC Domestic Installer" status and claims "over 10 years experience". We have not checked those claims against the NICEIC register, so please do that yourself before booking.
One thing to know: when we visited, part of the introduction on the website still held placeholder text. That suggests the site may be unfinished. It is not proof of anything about the work, but it is a good reason to ask questions on the phone.
The site makes no emergency call-out claim. It does promise that you will not be left without power overnight, so ask what that means in practice.
A good place to start if: You are doing up a home and want a firm that says it only works on domestic jobs.

4. S Barker Electrical Ltd
A long-established company with a Which? Trusted Traders profile
S Barker Electrical Ltd has more public records behind it than most businesses on this list.
Companies House shows S Barker Electrical Limited as active. It was incorporated in August 2007, and its registered office is on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield. Its business type is electrical installation.
It also has a Which? Trusted Traders profile. When we checked in October 2026, the profile showed a rating of 4.9 from 14 reviews. That is a small number of reviews, so read them for yourself rather than relying on the score.
The profile lists electrical testing, installations, electric showers, emergency call-outs, fuse boards, repairs, landlord safety certificates, outdoor wiring and rewiring. The owner's description also mentions PAT testing, fault finding, garden electrics and EV charge points. The profile describes the business as "NICEIC and TrustMark Approved". Check that with NICEIC and TrustMark directly.
The director presents the business as handling both domestic and commercial jobs, large and small. The profile promises a response within five minutes and offers free online quotes and online booking.
The profile does not set out a service area. Reviewers mostly seem to be local, but one review says the business did not cover their area. So give your postcode early.
A good place to start if: You want an EICR, a landlord certificate or a fuse board upgrade from a company with a long public record.

5. Loxley Electrical
A local listing we could not check properly
We want to be honest about this one. We found very little we can confirm about Loxley Electrical.
A public directory lists Loxley Electrical at an address in Loxley, in the northwest of the city. The listing shows opening hours on weekdays and a mobile number. It also shows a rating of 5.0 from 33 reviews. The directory says that rating comes from public sources as of April 2026, and that its descriptions are generated automatically and may be out of date. We could not see where the reviews were posted.
The website address in that listing, loxleyelectrical.co.uk, does not show an electrician's site. When we visited, it showed a page listing many Sheffield electricians. That page says it is under new ownership and is not connected to the business that used the domain before. So we could not read anything from Loxley Electrical in its own words.
That means we cannot tell you what services it offers, which areas it covers, whether it is registered with a scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT, or whether it is a limited company or a sole trader.
If you are interested, call and ask the basic questions. What work do you do? Which register are you on? Can I see your insurance? Can you send a written quote? A real local business should be happy to answer.
A good place to start if: You live near Loxley, you like to use very local trades and you are prepared to check every detail yourself.
Directory listing: Loxley Electrical on WotsItCalled
6. M.A Electrical Contractor Ltd
A firm that publishes its prices
It is unusual for an electrician to put guide prices on a website. M.A Electrical Contractor Ltd does.
Companies House shows the company as active. It was incorporated in September 2019, with a registered office on Springvale Road, in the Walkley area. The website says it has been trading "since 2019, in Walkley" and describes itself as "owner-run, team of four".
The site gives "from" prices including VAT. At the time we looked, these included an EICR from £119, fault finding from £102, a consumer unit replacement from £539 and a rewire from £2,160 after a survey. It says clearly that these are guide prices and not a binding contract. Prices change, so treat them only as a way to compare.
The site also lists an emergency call-out from £144 and says evenings, weekends and out-of-hours visits are available at a higher rate. It claims a same-working-day reply. That is a claim about replying, not about turning up. Ask how fast someone can actually attend.
It says it covers Sheffield postcodes S1 to S36. Rotherham, Barnsley and Chesterfield are only covered for days with three or more properties, and anywhere else only for larger programmes of work.
On registration, the site says "NAPIT approved" and shows a TrustMark firm number. We did not check these on the NAPIT or TrustMark registers, so do that before you rely on them. It also says fixed electrical work is guaranteed for five years and that it holds £5 million of public liability insurance. Ask to see the paperwork for both.
The site says it has a 4.9 rating from 63 Google reviews. That is the business's own statement. We did not check it on Google.
A good place to start if: You want a rough price in your head before you ring around, or you are a landlord who needs an EICR.

7. HTS Electrical Ltd Sheffield
A family firm that covers domestic and commercial work
HTS Electrical Ltd gives its address as Freedom Road, in the S6 postcode area of Sheffield. Its website says it is a family-run business.
The site lists commercial and domestic electrical work, house rewiring, inspection and testing including EICRs, electrical installation for new builds and renovations, and renewable work such as solar panels, air source heat pumps and EV chargers. It says it serves Sheffield and the South Yorkshire area, with separate pages for Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley.
The site says it has been servicing the area for "over 20 years". We would treat that with a little caution. A year counter on the same page looked garbled when we read it, and we found no other evidence of how long it has traded.
Logos on the site refer to NAPIT, Checkatrade and a registered competent persons scheme. The site does not explain them in the text. We could not open its Checkatrade page, so we cannot tell you its score or review count. We also did not find a Companies House record for the company name. Check both yourself.
The site makes no emergency or out-of-hours claim.
One practical point. On the website, the phone number shown as text does not match the number in the phone link. Before you call, check that you are dialling the right one.
A good place to start if: You have a mix of domestic and small commercial work, or you are thinking about solar, a heat pump or an EV charger.

8. Parkhead Electrical
A family-run firm with a short website
Parkhead Electrical is a Sheffield firm that has a simple website with a phone number and an email address. The site gives no street address.
It lists domestic work including rewiring, lighting, electrical upgrades, installations, maintenance and repairs, landlord certificates, garden lighting and portable appliance testing. For commercial work, it says it serves "all types of property, including offices, universities and bars". It says it serves Sheffield and across South Yorkshire.
The site claims "over 20 years of industry expertise". Logos on the page refer to NAPIT, TrustMark and Part P, but there is no wording to explain them. It also promises an "insurance-backed warranty" on its work. Ask what that covers, and check any registration on the scheme's own register.
A public directory listing for the business gives an address in the Ecclesall area, weekday working hours and a description of a family-owned firm. That listing contains some details that do not agree with each other. It says the firm has operated for over 30 years in one place and over 20 years in another. It also describes 24/7 emergency service while listing weekday-only hours. We would not rely on any of this. The business's own site makes no emergency claim.
We found no reviews on the site, only a link to a Yell listing, and we did not find a Companies House record we could match to the name. It may not be a limited company. Ask who you are contracting with.
A good place to start if: You want a long-running local firm for a domestic job and you are happy to ask a few questions before booking.

9. Kan-u Electrical Services
Lighting and rewiring, from a website that looks dated
Kan-u Electrical Services has a small website. It lists lighting and extractor installation, full rewiring of homes or new builds, and electrical and lighting work for outdoor events, concerts, markets, big tops and theatres. It says "no task is too big or too small" and serves Sheffield and the surrounding areas.
The site claims "over 12 years experience". The footer shows a copyright year of 2016, so the site may not have been updated for a long time. That does not mean the business has stopped trading, but it is a reason to ring and check.
The site gives only a phone number. A public directory lists the business on Redmires Road, in the west of the city, with weekday hours and the same phone number. The directory shows a rating of 4.5 from 8 reviews, taken from public sources as of April 2026. That is a small number of reviews, and we could not tell where they were posted.
There is an image file on the site that looks like a NAPIT logo, but it has no wording with it. We cannot say whether the business is registered. If you need a certificate for your work, ask which scheme it uses and check that scheme's register.
A good place to start if: You want lighting work or a rewire from a small local business, or you have an unusual lighting job and want someone who says they have done event work.
Website: kan-u.co.uk
10. MJB Electrical Services
A north Sheffield business with a mix of commercial and home work
MJB Electrical Services is listed in the Worrall area, in the north of the city. A public directory gives an address on Birley View and a rating of 5.0 from 2 reviews as of April 2026. Two reviews tell you very little, so do not give that score much weight.
The business has its own website. It describes "large scale commercial electrical installations and data cabling" as well as domestic fuse box repairs. It lists rewiring, fuse boards, electric central heating and electric underfloor heating, and offers a free consultation. It says it has "many years of experience", with no figure.
The site shows a "55 Reviews" badge. The one testimonial we could see was dated May 2020. That is a good reason to look for newer feedback elsewhere. The site shows no accreditation, and the section on where it works was cut off when we read it, so we cannot tell you its coverage. The page mentions emergency repairs, but we saw no clear promise about response times.
Ask the business how far it travels, which scheme registers its work and what paperwork it will give you.
A good place to start if: You live in the north of Sheffield, such as Worrall, and need rewiring, fuse board work or electric heating.

A Few Things to Check Before Hiring an Electrician in Sheffield
Once you have a couple of names, take a little time to compare them. It can save money and stress.
Check their qualifications and registration
Ask whether the electrician is registered with a competent person scheme for the work you need. For work in the home, GOV.UK points you to the Electrical Competent Person Register. You can read the GOV.UK guidance on competent person schemes. It explains that a registered installer can certify their own work and that you should get a certificate after the job.
A logo on a website is not proof. Look the business up on the scheme's own register.
Read reviews from other customers
Do not stop at the star score. Read some recent reviews and look for comments on punctuality, communication, tidiness and how problems were handled.
Look for feedback on the same type of job you need. A business with good reviews for small repairs may not be the right pick for a full rewire. A score based on very few reviews tells you less than one based on many.
Ask about coverage before you ask about price
Sheffield spreads from the city centre out to places such as Stocksbridge, Mosborough and Totley. Several of the businesses above list wide service areas. Tell them your postcode first, and ask whether there is a travel charge or a longer wait for your part of the city.
Ask for a written quote
For planned work, get two or three quotes. Check that each one covers the same work, including labour, materials, testing, certificates and VAT. If you are comparing a lower price with a higher one, check what has been left out.
Confirm what paperwork you will receive
Depending on the job, you may get an electrical installation certificate, a minor works certificate or an Electrical Installation Condition Report. Ask which one applies and whether it is in the price.
Older homes and shared houses
If you live in an older property, tell the electrician what you have noticed, such as old rubber-coated cables, round-pin sockets or a fuse board with ceramic fuses. That helps them judge how much time a visit will take.
If you rent out a house shared by several tenants, check with Sheffield City Council whether it needs a licence. The council's page on private housing controls mentions licensing for houses in multiple occupation and notes that some electrical work may need building regulations approval.
What Is an EICR, and Do You Need One?
EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report.
An electrician inspects and tests the fixed wiring in a property, such as the consumer unit, circuits, sockets and switches. The report can flag damage, wear and anything that does not meet current safety standards. The report is only as good as the inspection behind it, so ask what will be tested.
An EICR can be useful if you are a landlord, buying an older home or unsure about the state of your wiring.
In England, landlords of private rented homes must have the electrics inspected and tested by a qualified person at least every five years. This comes from the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020. GOV.UK says the rules now also cover social landlords, since a 2025 change. Landlords must give tenants proof that the checks were done. Read the GOV.UK electrical safety guidance for landlords for the details.
Sheffield City Council can inspect private rented homes for hazards, including fire and other risks. It can serve formal notices on landlords who do not fix serious problems. The council's page on repairs to rented homes explains how tenants can report disrepair. That page does not set out the EICR rules, so rely on the GOV.UK guidance for those.
If you are booking an EICR, ask what is included in the price. Ask what happens if the report finds faults. Repair work may need a separate quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an electrician cost in Sheffield?
It depends on the job. Replacing a socket, finding a fault, doing an EICR and rewiring a whole house are very different amounts of work.
Access, materials and whether you need someone out of hours also change the price. One business in this guide, M.A Electrical Contractor Ltd, publishes guide prices on its site. That is useful for a rough idea, but a written quote for your property is what counts.
Is it easy to find an emergency electrician in Sheffield?
Not every business offers emergency work. In this guide, M.A Electrical Contractor Ltd advertises an emergency call-out at a higher rate, and S Barker Electrical Ltd lists emergency call-outs on its Which? Trusted Traders profile. Several others make no emergency claim at all.
Call first. Ask whether someone can come to your postcode, how soon and what the call-out charge is.
If you see sparks or smoke, smell burning or find exposed live wires, keep away from the area and do not try to fix it yourself. If anyone is in danger, call the emergency services.
Do landlords in Sheffield need an EICR?
Yes, if the property is covered by the rules in England. Private landlords must have the fixed electrical installation inspected and tested at least every five years, get the report and give copies as the regulations require.
Sheffield is in England, so this is the rule that applies. Check the latest GOV.UK guidance for your tenancy.
Is an electrician who covers Sheffield and South Yorkshire right for me?
Maybe, but check. Many of the businesses above say they cover Sheffield and nearby towns such as Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster or Chesterfield. A wide area can mean a wide choice, but it can also mean longer waits if the business is stretched.
Ask how soon they can start and who will turn up. If a firm has a team of several people, ask whether it is the same person who gave you the quote.
How do I check that an electrician is registered?
Do not rely on a logo. Ask which scheme the business is with, then search for it on that scheme's own register. GOV.UK's competent person scheme page points to the Electrical Competent Person Register for work at home.
Some of the businesses above show logos or say they belong to NICEIC, NAPIT or TrustMark. We have not confirmed any of these on the registers.
What should I ask before booking?
Ask whether they cover your postcode, whether they can give you a written quote, what paperwork you will get at the end and when they can start.
It is also sensible to ask about payment terms, extra charges and any guarantee on the work. A good electrician should explain the job in words you understand.
Final Thoughts
Finding an electrician in Sheffield does not have to be hard. Start by working out what you need. It might be a quick repair, an EICR for a rental or a bigger job such as a rewire.
Then pick two or three businesses that cover your part of the city. Read their recent reviews, check any registration on the official register and compare written quotes.
Some businesses in this guide have clear websites, company records and public reviews. Others have very little we could check. That is not a mark against them, but it does mean you should ask more questions before you book. If you want a lot of detail on paper first, S Barker Electrical Ltd and Smart Electricians Ltd have the clearest public records of the ten. If you want published prices, M.A Electrical Contractor Ltd is the one to look at.
There is no need to take the first name you find. A few simple checks can help you pick someone who suits your home, your budget and your timeline.
At LocalListed, our aim is to help you find local services and make better-informed choices. We hope this guide gives you a useful starting point for finding an electrician in Sheffield.
Editorial note: This guide uses publicly available business information and profiles reviewed in October 2026. LocalListed has not independently tested these businesses. Service areas, reviews, registration details and availability can change, so confirm them directly with the company before booking.
