Looking for a Reliable Electrician in Bristol?
Finding a good electrician is not always easy, especially when something goes wrong at home and you want it sorted quickly. Perhaps a fuse board keeps tripping, a socket has stopped working, or you have just bought a house and want to know the wiring is safe.
Bristol has a lot of older homes. Victorian and Edwardian terraces fill areas like Bedminster, Southville, Redland and Easton. Many of these have been extended, converted into flats or rewired in stages over the years. Newer estates on the edge of the city have different needs, such as extra sockets, EV chargers and consumer unit upgrades. The right electrician for one of these jobs may not be the right one for another.
To make your search easier, we have put together this guide to 10 electricians in Bristol worth looking into. We looked at each company's advertised services, its business details and the customer feedback shown on public trader profiles.
This is a starting point, not an official ranking. We have not tested any of these businesses. Before you decide, read recent reviews, check that the electrician covers your part of Bristol, and ask for a clear written quote.

Now let's look at what each company offers and the sort of job you might contact them about.
1. Earthtech Electrical
A sole trader with a Which? Trusted Traders profile
If you like the idea of dealing with one person from the first call to the finished job, a sole trader can be a good fit.
Earthtech Electrical is based in Eastville, Bristol. On its Which? Trusted Traders profile, the business describes itself as a sole trader electrician who specialises in high specification installations. It says it handles everything from replacing a socket to large rewiring jobs, and that it works on domestic, commercial and industrial properties, including three-phase supply.
The profile lists electrical installations, testing, fuse boards, outdoor wiring and rewiring. It also lists emergency lighting, LED lighting, CCTV, door entry and alarm installation. The profile includes the line that it only works to written quotes. That is a sensible habit, and worth asking about on the phone.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 4.9 from 23 reviews. It lists opening hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. It lists "electrical emergency services" as a service but does not say it offers 24 hour cover, so ask what is possible before you rely on it.
We did not find a standalone website for the business, only a Facebook page linked from the profile. The profile does not mention any trade body registration. If that matters for your job, ask which scheme the electrician is registered with and how to check it.
A good place to start if: You want a sole trader for an installation, lighting upgrade or rewire in Eastville and the surrounding area.

2. MJN Electrical & Electronic Services
For repairs, testing and installations across Bristol and nearby towns
Some jobs need an electrician who can look at both the wiring and the equipment on the end of it. MJN Electrical & Electronic Services is worth a look if you fall into that group.
The business is a sole trader based in the St Anne's area of Bristol. Its Which? Trusted Traders profile says it offers domestic, commercial and industrial work, and mentions over 30 years of experience in the electrical and electronic trades. Services listed there include installations, repairs, outdoor wiring, fuse boards, testing, rewiring and landlord safety certificates.
The profile names Bristol, Bath, Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea and Chew Magna as places it covers. The business's own website adds more, including stage electrical work, CCTV, network cabling, door entry, portable appliance testing and Electrical Installation Condition Reports.
Both the profile and the website say the business is registered with NICEIC. We have not checked the NICEIC register ourselves, so confirm the registration before you book if it matters to you.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 5.0 from 12 reviews. A small number of reviews is a smaller sample, so read the comments themselves. The profile lists weekday hours of 9am to 5pm. It lists "electrical emergency services" but makes no 24 hour claim.
A good place to start if: You need a repair, an inspection or an installation, and you live in Bristol or one of the nearby towns it lists.

3. Lek-Trix Limited
A long running Clifton company for consumer units, EICRs and lighting
If you live in one of the older, larger houses in Clifton, Redland or Cotham, you may need work that goes beyond a quick repair. Lek-Trix Limited is one company that works in that part of Bristol.
Its Which? Trusted Traders profile says it was founded in Bristol in 2007. Companies House shows a company of the same name, incorporated in May 2007 at an address in Portland Street, Clifton. The profile lists electrical installations, repairs, testing, fuse boards, outdoor wiring, rewiring and landlord safety certificates. It also lists LED and emergency lighting, security work and smart home services.
The company's own website is narrower. It describes three main services: consumer unit upgrades, EICRs and electrical safety checks, and LED lighting. It names districts such as Clifton, Redland, Cotham, Henleaze and Stoke Bishop as areas it serves. If you are outside those districts, ask whether it can take on your job.
The website shows NICEIC Domestic Installer and Approved Contractor logos, and the profile says the business is registered with both. The profile also says it is a member of the TrustMark scheme. We have not checked either register, so do that yourself if it matters.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 4.9 from 177 reviews. That is a larger sample than most on this list. The profile lists hours of 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 3pm on Friday, and does not advertise emergency call-outs.
A good place to start if: You live in Clifton, Redland, Cotham or nearby and want a consumer unit upgrade, an EICR or lighting work.

4. Mark Evans Electrical & Security
For house rewiring and security work, with a family run team
A full rewire is a big job, and it helps to ask a company that does them often. Mark Evans Electrical & Security says house rewiring is one of its specialities.
According to its Which? Trusted Traders profile, the business was established in 1992 and is family run. The profile mentions four vans, three electricians and an office team. The business address on the profile is in Soundwell Road, Bristol, in the BS16 postcode area.
Services listed include rewiring, testing, installations, repairs, fuse boards, electric showers, LED and security lighting, alarms, CCTV, door entry and access control. If you need both electrical work and a burglar alarm, you could ask whether one visit can cover both.
The business's website, electricianbath.com, says it works across Bath, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Somerset and the surrounding areas. It describes itself as an NICEIC Approved Domestic Installer and says it can respond quickly to emergency calls. We have not checked the NICEIC register, and the site does not give a response time, so ask before you rely on it.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 4.9 from 66 reviews. It lists hours of 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
A good place to start if: You are planning a rewire or want electrical and security work from one company in the Bristol and Bath area.

5. Rygol Electrical Services Ltd
For domestic and commercial work, with solar and EV charging as well
Plenty of Bristol homeowners now want more than a repair. They want a charger for the car, or solar panels on the roof. Rygol Electrical Services Ltd is one of the companies here that advertises both.
The business is based in Staple Hill. Companies House shows a company of the same name incorporated in July 2014 at the same address. Its Which? Trusted Traders profile says it is based in Bristol and works throughout the South West. The profile lists installations, repairs, testing, fuse boards, rewiring and landlord safety certificates. It also lists CCTV, alarms and data cabling.
The company's own website lists consumer unit upgrades, rewiring, inspections, solar PV, battery storage and commercial work. It names Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, Newport, Weston and Swindon among the places it covers. The site says the business is an NICEIC approved contractor and shows a TrustMark logo, but we have not checked either register.
The website says it is an introducer for a finance broker, and that finance is subject to status. If you are offered finance, read the terms carefully and compare it with paying outright.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 4.9 from 32 reviews. The company website shows a Google rating from 147 reviews, which we did not check on Google. Neither source advertises emergency call-outs.
A good place to start if: You want a rewire or consumer unit upgrade, or you are thinking about an EV charger or solar panels.

6. Jon Pritchard Ltd
A loft conversion and building firm that also lists electrical work
This entry is a little different from the others, so please read it carefully.
Jon Pritchard Ltd is a building and loft conversion company based in Bedminster. It appears in the Which? Trusted Traders electricians list, and its profile lists electricians as one of its trades, alongside builders and property refurbishment. The profile has little detail about electrical services on their own.
Companies House shows a company named Jon Pritchard Ltd, incorporated in 2006, in Bedminster. The company website describes the business as a loft conversion specialist. When we looked, the pages we read did not mention electrical work. That does not mean it does none. It may do the electrics as part of its own projects.
So treat this as an option if you are planning a loft conversion or a larger building project and want one company to manage it. If you only need a socket replaced or an EICR, one of the electrical specialists on this list is likely to be a better fit.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 5.0 from 87 reviews. Those reviews appear to be mainly about building and conversion work. Read them with that in mind.
Ask who will carry out and certify the electrical work, and which scheme that person is registered with. Ask for the certificate at the end.
A good place to start if: You are planning a loft conversion or refurbishment in Bristol and want to ask how the electrics will be handled.

7. Ynot Renovate
For smaller domestic electrical jobs in Hanham and East Bristol
Plenty of electrical work is small and practical. A new socket in the kitchen, a fuse box upgrade, power for a shed or smoke alarms that need connecting. Ynot Renovate lists exactly this kind of job.
The business is based in Hanham. Its Which? Trusted Traders profile describes fully insured domestic electrical services. The list includes replacing faulty sockets and switches, fuse box upgrades, electrics for garages, sheds and lofts, connecting cookers and showers, adding sockets, downlights, and smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarm connections.
The profile and the business's website say it is registered with NICEIC as a Domestic Installer, and the website gives a registration number. Anyone can check a number like that on the NICEIC register before booking, and we suggest you do. The website also lists City and Guilds qualifications, including for periodic inspection and testing.
The website does not list a service area. Reviewers on the Which? profile are in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset, but that tells you where past customers live, not where the business will travel. Ask about your postcode.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 5.0 from 69 reviews. It lists weekday hours of 8am to 6pm and Saturday mornings. It does not advertise emergency call-outs.
A good place to start if: You need a small to medium domestic job such as sockets, lights, a fuse box upgrade or alarm connections.

8. Fairway Electrical (Bristol) Ltd
For domestic electrical work in South Bristol
If you live in Brislington, Totterdown, Knowle or nearby, a company based close by can make booking a visit simpler.
Fairway Electrical (Bristol) Ltd is based in Brislington. Companies House shows a company of that name, incorporated in September 2021, with electrical installation as its listed activity. The owner describes the business on its Which? Trusted Traders profile as a NAPIT registered electrician offering domestic electrical services across Bristol and South Bristol.
Services listed include fault-finding, repairs, rewiring, fuse box upgrades, EICRs, landlord electrical services, lighting, extractor fans and smoke alarms. The website names around fifteen Bristol area locations and says it serves the entire Bristol area.
The website shows NAPIT and TrustMark logos and advertises a 24/7 emergency call-out. It also makes some claims you should check for yourself. It says it has served Bristol for seven years or more, and over 100 five star reviews. The Which? profile text mentions over 200 five star reviews, but the profile itself shows only a few. We did not check where these reviews are held. Ask the company how long it has traded, and read reviews on a site you trust. Check the NAPIT registration too, and ask what the emergency call-out fee is.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 5.0 from just 2 reviews. That is too small a sample to tell you much.
A good place to start if: You live in South Bristol and want a local electrician for a repair, an EICR or a fuse box upgrade, and you are happy to do a few checks first.

9. Allied Electrical Services Limited
For rewires, EV charging and landlord work from Kingswood
Allied Electrical Services Limited works from a unit in Kingswood, on the east side of the city. Its website lists rewiring, EV charging, domestic electrical work, fuse box replacement, commercial and industrial work, fire alarms, emergency lighting and work for landlords and letting agents. It also lists solar PV, battery storage and EV charger maintenance.
The website says the business has been going for over 20 years, and describes itself as an NICEIC approved contractor and domestic installer. We did not check the NICEIC register. We also could not match the name to a company record at Companies House, so if you want legal details, ask the business for its company number.
For rewires, the website says all rewires come with full certification and a 3 year insurance backed warranty. The Which? Trusted Traders profile mentions a 5 year guarantee on all work. These two statements differ, so ask which applies to your job and ask to see the guarantee in writing.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 4.9 from 20 reviews. It lists weekday hours of 8.30am to 5.30pm. "Electrical emergency services" appears in the services list, but neither the profile nor the website advertises 24 hour cover.
The profile does not list a service area. Reviewers are in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire, so ask about your postcode.
A good place to start if: You are a landlord, or you want a rewire, EV charger or fuse box replacement on the east side of Bristol.

10. DC Electrical Services
For domestic, commercial and security work from Mangotsfield
DC Electrical Services is a small company based in Mangotsfield, on the northern edge of Bristol. Its Which? Trusted Traders profile describes it as a small and professional company covering all types of electrical work, and says about 90 percent of its work comes through recommendation.
Services listed include installations, testing, repairs, fuse boards, rewiring, landlord safety certificates, outdoor wiring, LED and outdoor lighting, CCTV, alarms, door entry, access control and TV and data installation. The website adds EV charge points, Ring doorbells and electrical safety test reports.
The profile says the business is established and has been going for 25 years. The website gives different figures, over 37 years for the company overall and over 25 years of experience with CCTV and alarms. Treat these as the business's own claims, and ask how long the current company has been trading.
The profile says it is registered with NICEIC and TrustMark. The website says it is registered with NAPIT. These differ, so ask the company which scheme covers your job, and check that scheme's register. We did not check either.
When we checked in October 2026, the Which? profile displayed a rating of 5.0 from 62 reviews. It lists opening hours of 8am to 5.30pm every day of the week. It lists "electrical emergency services" but gives no emergency hours or response times.
A good place to start if: You live in North or East Bristol, or South Gloucestershire, and need domestic electrical work or a security system fitted.

A Few Things to Check Before Hiring an Electrician in Bristol
Once you have found a couple of companies that look suitable, take a little time to compare them. It can save you money and make the whole process less stressful.
Check their qualifications and registration
For work that needs particular qualifications or registration, ask whether the electrician is appropriately qualified and registered for that job. Our research showed that different businesses name different schemes, and some profiles and websites do not agree. So ask each company which scheme it is registered with and check that scheme's own register.
You can use the GOV.UK guidance on competent person schemes to learn how registered installers can self-certify their work and where to check them.
Read reviews from other customers
Do not look only at the overall rating. Read some recent reviews to see what customers say about punctuality, communication, pricing and the quality of the finished work.
Look for feedback about the same type of job you need. In this guide, some businesses have a handful of reviews and some have well over a hundred. A high score from a few reviews is not the same as a high score from many.
Ask for a written quote
For planned work, try to get two or three quotes. Check that each one covers the same work, and explains labour, materials, testing, certification and any other charges.
An unusually cheap quote is not always the best option. Make sure you understand what is included.
Confirm what paperwork you will receive
Depending on the job, you may need an electrical installation certificate, a minor works certificate or an Electrical Installation Condition Report.
Ask the electrician which document applies to your work and whether it is included in the price. Ask for it at the end of the job.
Think about your type of property
Older Bristol houses may have wiring that has been added to over many decades. Tell the electrician the age of the property and whether it has been converted into flats. If a ceiling or floor may need to be opened up, ask who will make good the damage afterwards.
If you live in a flat or a leasehold property, check whether your building owner or managing agent needs to be told about the work.
Check they cover your area
Bristol sits close to Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, and many electricians work across all of them. Do not assume a company will come to your postcode just because it lists Bristol.
Ask whether they cover your area, when they can visit, and whether evening, weekend or emergency visits cost extra.
What Is an EICR, and Do You Need One?
You may have seen the term EICR while looking for an electrician. It stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report.
An EICR is produced after an electrician inspects and tests a property's fixed electrical installation. It can highlight defects, damage, deterioration and other issues that may need attention.
It can be useful if you are a landlord, buying an older property or worried about the condition of your electrics.
Bristol has a large private rented sector, with many shared houses and converted flats. In England, the government says landlords must have the electrics in a rented property checked at least every 5 years by a properly qualified person, and must give tenants proof of the inspection. You can read the official GOV.UK electrical safety guidance for landlords for the detail.
Bristol City Council also runs property licensing schemes for some rented homes, and licence conditions can change. If you let a property in Bristol, check the council's property licences pages as well as the national rules.
If you are arranging an EICR, ask whether the quoted price includes the report and what happens if the inspection finds problems. Any remedial work may need a separate quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an electrician cost in Bristol?
It depends on the job. Replacing a socket, finding a fault, carrying out an EICR and rewiring a house are very different amounts of work.
Time, materials, access to the installation and whether you need an urgent call-out can all change the price.
The simplest approach is to explain the job clearly and ask for a written quote. If you are comparing prices, make sure each electrician is quoting for the same work.
How do I find an emergency electrician in Bristol?
Start by checking which companies cover your postcode and say they take emergency calls. In this guide, Fairway Electrical (Bristol) Ltd advertises a 24/7 call-out on its website. Mark Evans Electrical & Security says on its website that it can respond quickly to emergency calls. Several other profiles list emergency services without saying what hours they cover.
Call to confirm availability, arrival time and charges before you book.
If you see sparks, smoke, a burning smell or exposed live wiring, keep clear of the affected area and do not try to repair it yourself. If there is immediate danger, contact the emergency services.
Do landlords in Bristol need an EICR?
In England, landlords of most private rented homes must have the electrics checked at least every 5 years by a properly qualified person, and must give tenants proof of the inspection. Check the latest GOV.UK guidance for the rules that apply to your property and tenancy. Bristol City Council may also set licence conditions for some rented homes, so check with the council.
Should I hire a sole trader or a larger company?
That depends on the job. A sole trader may suit a small repair or a straightforward upgrade. A larger firm, or a building company that handles several trades, may suit a loft conversion, a renovation or commercial work.
Whichever you choose, check qualifications, registration, insurance, written pricing and recent customer feedback.
What should I ask before booking?
Ask whether the electrician covers your postcode, is qualified for the work, can give a written quote and will issue the right paperwork afterwards.
It is also sensible to ask about the start date, payment terms, extra charges and any guarantee on the work.
A good electrician should be able to explain the job in a way you understand.
Final Thoughts
Finding an electrician in Bristol does not need to be complicated. Start by working out what you need, whether that is an urgent repair, an inspection or a bigger home project.
Then narrow your options to companies that cover your area and do that kind of work. Read their latest reviews, check the registrations they claim and compare written quotes.
If you want to deal with a larger sample of reviews, Lek-Trix Limited and Mark Evans Electrical & Security both display well over 50 reviews on their Which? profiles. For smaller domestic jobs, Ynot Renovate and Fairway Electrical (Bristol) Ltd list that kind of work. If you are planning a loft conversion, Jon Pritchard Ltd may be worth asking about. These are only starting points, and none of them is an official ranking.
There is no need to choose the first electrician you find. A few simple checks can help you find someone who suits your property, your budget and the work you need done.
At LocalListed, our aim is to help you discover local services and make more informed decisions. We hope this guide gives you a useful starting point for finding an electrician in Bristol.
Editorial note: This guide uses publicly available business information and trader profiles reviewed in October 2026. LocalListed has not independently tested these businesses. Service areas, reviews, registration details and availability can change, so confirm them directly with the company before booking.
